I’m assuming most people know me as a jack of all trades and a master of a couple. Other people may say I know enough about everything to be dangerous. To tell you the truth it’s all fueled by the cultivation of my hobbies and desire to learn. Everything from screen printing, graphic design, to engine swaps, and making music. I wear more hats than I probably remember. The past three years have been an interesting trip for me. I’ve taken a big interest in watching other business’s and how they run. I’ve learned a few things and if I could sum up what I think it takes to make a successful business run id say something like this.
Clear communication with your customers, employees, and other business’s will put you strides ahead of competitors .
Streamlining your work process and identifying problems before they happen not only saves money and increases productivity, but keeps employees safe and your customers happy.
Being up to date with technology, be it machinery or communications makes you able to be more productive & communicate ideas along with information more clear – way faster.
You need to be able to adapt your business. I’ve always believed that diversity will make a company grow but seeing it work in the real world just proves it.
Managing multiple priorities is a must. No matter how big or how small. If you cant do this you’re in trouble, or you need someone who can do it for you!
What I have learned may seem very generic but I can tell you from experience that if one of those statements are not being fulfilled, the company will hurt. When I join a company or a team I tend to make myself very flexible. I am always open to new ideas and odd hours do not bother me. I like seeing everyone moving in a forward direction. Sometimes things are slow and you just have to fight through a tough spot but that’s where patience comes in. Never have I encountered a job that patients and hard work couldn’t get me through.
I wouldn’t say I’m obsessive but I take such great pride in my work that I can’t stand it not looking as best as I can make it look. For example, my paint work. Any good painter knows the paint is only as good as the prep. When I perform body work I make it as perfect as I can because I know the end product relies so heavily upon it. Patients is key here.
I’m very loyal. The last company I worked for hired me right out of school due to my abilities. At the beginning I set a goal with them. I stuck with them through good and bad for three years until my goal had been met. In that time people have come and gone but I had stayed. As a mechanic and painter many opportunities to make money arise as side jobs from customers. Some guys would take this work but I am against it. How will the company I work for make money to pay me if I am stealing their work? This has never made sense to me why people would want to hurt themselves in the long run by taking this kind of work.
I’m confident. Even when walking into a situation where I have no idea what is going on, I know I am able to learn. I have no reserves about asking questions or using my knowledge.
I think my best trait overall is just that I’m positive. Life is too short to be angry, plus being angry never really gets anything done. I’ve always said “I don’t get angry, I just solve problems”.
